Bourbon Vanilla Extract
Sarah Mikulski
Making your own vanilla extract is simple and inexpensive. Using Vanilla Bean Kings extract kit, I made my very own bourbon vanilla extract. Perfect for baking, coffee, and so much more!
- 1 oz. vanilla beans about 8-10 beans
- 8 oz. bourbon at least 35% alcohol
Cut your vanilla beans in half and then slit them open length-wise. I'll attach a video showing my process in this blog post!
Completely submerge your vanilla beans with the bourbon.
Secure the lid on your jar or bottle. Store in a location that is out of direct sunlight and at room temperature. Shake 1-2 times a week.
Let your extract sit for 6-12 months to let the extraction fully finish. The longer you wait, the better. Extract ages like fine wine!
- If stored properly, it will last forever!
- Be patient, it will be worth it 😉
- If you're not a fan of bourbon - try vodka, rum, or brandy
